We were very lucky to have Krista from KDEC come and spend the morning with us to give us insight into working with Deaf leaners. She gave us some great tips and tricks! We learned a few new signs, modified versions of the games Chinese Whispers and Bang and we were able to watch a video to understand what it was like to use a cochlear implant. Krista explained strategies to increase inclusion – reducing visual noise, increasing the wait time for answers and asking open questions which give learners a chance to respond with more than a yes or no. Krista gave us a refreshed excitement to meet our Deaf leaners. We’re all curious to know what sign names they will give us!
