We have had an exceptional first week at OrmPS. With well over 100 foundation learners joining us on Day 1. We began our week with a pohiri (Maori welcome & blessing). Our pohiri was unique and we were fortunate to have members of the Nga Thai iwi lead and guide us through the special procedure. It was an invaluable experience for everyone and helped to make our first day memorable in a culturally appropriate way. Many of our learners families stayed for our pohiri- welcome, speeches, waiata and the blessing of the building. Learners then made their way to their Learning Habitats with their Learning Coaches and began their new, exciting learning journey. This week the learners were introduced to our logo story, the 4 vision principles, the OrmPS daily schedule, New Zealand Sign Language, the wonderful learning spaces in the school and of course, each other. Parents and families have been invited into our habitats whenever they are on campus and our open door policy remains. It is inspiring to see the curiosity sparked and the questions are rolling on in- we say ‘bring it on’! We can’t wait for week 2 to welcome nine new learners to join our learning community. One word, our word = #orseome. Take a look: Ormiston Primary School’s First #oresome Week on PhotoPeach
