Our Community

OrmPS is located in Flat Bush, which is in South Eastern Auckland. Please see the map below. For more information on the area please see the MyOrmiston website.

Community Campus: Our ultimate plan is for deeper engagement through a seamless transition across the three Ormiston Campus schools, everything from the administration to the education. What could this look like? Perhaps a Year 6 learner from our school engaging at a high level may work at either the Junior or Senior College (OSC). Another scenario could be that a part-time language teacher may work across the three schools. There is also the possibility of some specialized spaces being shared like the science/technology, arts and drama spaces at OSC. We endeavour to make involvement by local Iwi and our parent community a natural and continuous process.

Key info about the schools in our community

  • Ormiston Junior College (2017) and Ormiston Senior College (2011) share our campus
  • OrmPS and OJC share the establishment Board of Trustees with the first election taking place in June 2017
  • Two other primaries are also planned for the area with yet to be determined start dates
  • Two Early Childhood Education centres are being developed on our Ormiston Community Campus
  • OrmPS also plans to fully utilize and connect with the facilities of our wider community

Planned Urban Development

Auckland Council, the Howick Local Board and other partners are working collaboratively on the development and transformation of Flat Bush. Flat Bush is the country’s largest and most comprehensively planned new town. By 2025, it is expected that the area will be home to at least 40,000 people: the approximate size of Nelson. The development includes five neighbourhood centres and has a strong focus on open space, high urban design standards and environmental sustainability.

Town Centre

This has commenced with development of phase one which includes a supermarket and residential development. The vision is that the town centre will be based around a traditional ‘mainstreet’, which will be compact and pedestrian friendly, have strong ties to the environment as well as Barry Curtis Park. Initial work on the site, just to the east of the gateway Ormiston Bridge near Chapel Road, is underway, including construction of a Pak ‘n Save. An initial 63 terraced houses have been consented with construction due to start early 2015. The heart of Ormiston Town Centre will be the $21 million library and multi-use community facility. As part of the development of Flat Bush, an aquatic centre is also planned on Ormiston Road. The aquatic centre will be a great place for people to meet, socialise, hold events and initial plans feature lap, leisure, learners and toddler pools, a spa, sauna and steam room, a fitness centre and cafe.

New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL)

We are fortunate to have a KDEC (Kelston Deaf Education Centre) Deaf Provision on site. All of our deaf learners will transition through all 3 of the Ormiston schools and align with our inclusive learning and teaching ideals. In addition, all of our staff have NZSL lessons.
