English Language Learning Team

Our English Language Learning Team is a wonderful bunch!  The English language Learning Leader guides a team of 4 English Language Learning Assistants who have a marvellous combined skill set (including speaking multiple languages) to support our English Language Learners within their habitat.  The support is both innovative and responsive to learner needs.

Donna Telfer
Donna TelferEnglish Language Learning Assistant
Donna started working as an English Language Learning Assistant at Ormiston Primary School in May 2016. Before starting at OrmPS she co-ran the PMP classes at Baverstock Oaks.

She is enjoying the variety and challenges of working with the English Language Learners, and is privileged to share in their everyday successes.
It is, and will continue to be an interesting and exciting journey as Ormiston Primary School, grows and matures, and she is proud to be a part of this wonderful learning environment.

Her afternoons and weekends are taken up with being a “Mum Taxi” for her 3 tween and teenage children, getting them to their after school sports and activities. Summer is a great time of the year – as her family enjoys going out on their boat.

Ivy Uy
Ivy UyEnglish Language Learning Assistant
Ivy began her teaching career in the Philippines in 1995 after completing her Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Over the years, she has gained valuable experiences in different school levels. Her decades of teaching experiences presented diverse challenges which meant that her learning never ends. As the saying goes: “ The more one teaches, the more one learns.”

Prior to joining Ormiston Primary, Ivy finished a post-graduate diploma in TESOL (honours) at Waikato Institute of Technology in Hamilton. This gave her a more in depth view on supporting English language learners in New Zealand. To top that, she was also awarded the Outstanding Student for the Centre for Teaching and Learning by the same institution.

Ivy is delighted to be part of the Ormiston Primary’s English Language Learning team and is looking forward to be able to use the different languages that she can speak: Filipino, English, Mandarin and Hokkien to help learners and the community.

Kiki Walton
Kiki WaltonEnglish Language Learning Assistant
Kiki joined our #oresome team in April and supports us in LH4, LH2 and LH1, primarily with our English Language Learners. She also enjoys supporting our educators with their learning programmes to meet the needs of our learners. We are lucky to have Kiki support those learners requiring Speech Language Therapy. Another fantastic skill Kiki can offer is translating as she is tri-lingual- speaking English, Cantonese and Mandarin. This has significantly helped us this home-school partnership. SHe is looking forward to working with all of the wonderful people @OrmPS as our school grows.

Prior to OrmPS Kiki worked at Pakuranga Heights Intermediate School for 18 years as an Educative Assistant.

Outside school, Kiki teaches Sunday School and is a volunteer with Seasons Program which supports young people dealing with grief. Kiki loves to travel with her family and friends.
