At Ormiston Primary School our learners have been gathering each morning for a hui- a short assembly to start our day where our Leader of Learning welcomes new learners to our school (presenting them with their foundation badge and/or lanyard), celebrates out of school extra curricular experiences, demonstrates our NZSL sign of the day and our team delivers any important notices.

It is a great time for all of us to gather together as a whanau, cement our expectations for attending events and share learning. In addition, we have a longer school focused assembly every second Tuesday where mr McNeil shares school wide learning, gives our certificates and we practice our waiata.  We are fortunate to have our lovely NZSL interpreters with us each day, not only for communicating with the deaf learners, but also for the entire school to be truly inclusive while learning more NZSL at the same time.  However, we have made some changes to maximize our iExplore learning time. Our new schedule for huis and assemblies:

Mondays

  • New learners (all new enrolments will start on Mondays, unless exceptional circumstances)
  • MVPs / Achievements
  • NZSL – signs for the week

Wednesdays

  • Waiata (even weeks)
  • School Focus Assembly (odd weeks) – No iActive on these days?
  • Learner Led Hui – last week of each term: Club Celebration
