Starting the season off with a win these girls displayed their capabilities and sportsmanship as they played their first games against Baverstock Oats School participating in lunchtime netball. Committed to working collaboratively as a team over the past term each and every one of the girls has shown up enthusiastically to weekly practices and fortnightly games. Always giving their best efforts and both encouraging each other and the other teams they have consistently role modelled the Ormiston Primary’s  school principles, and as a coach this has been incredibly humbling to be part of.

A highlight as identified by the girls was the Netball Fun Day held at the Howick and Pakuranga Netball Courts on the cold and stormy Tuesday 12th June. Despite the weather the girls passionately played 6 games against local schools, coming away with 5 wins and one draw.  The pride of the supporters that lined the court was obvious to onlookers as they cheered and congratulated the girls not only on each goal but on every effort they were whole- heartedly putting into the games.

As a coach I was incredibly proud to be part of this day and watch the Ormiston culture shine through.  As the end of Term 2 approaches we as a team are all looking forward to the challenges, triumphs and enjoyment Term 3 games will hold and invite you to come along and support us on the courts.

Our new entrant learners in LH2 have been showing us their capabilities in being responsible, doing a #oresome job at looking after the chickens. Their LC’s support them to give the chickens their food and water every day. After the weekend, the chickens can get hungry and impatient, pecking your feet when you try to enter the coop to feed them. LH2 learners make sure someone with filled in shoes goes into the coop to feed them first.

LH1 have been harvesting and selling vegetables at the Market Day. They have been exploring things they are interested in making and learning to pitch their idea to an audience. Learners have then taken on projects and have been trialling things they can make to sell at Market Day. It has been exciting to have other habitats join us and we are excited for more collaboration to come.

Market Day has been an exciting new initiative within Enviro. Each habitat has been planting their own garden beds full of beautifully fresh and organic vegetables and herbs. OrmPS has been harvesting theses vegetables and selling them to the community for a very small cost. It will be exciting to see others join us to sell their vegetables to!

English Language classes have started for  term 2. We had originally signed up 16 adults prior to the commencement of this term. On the first session 23 adults attended with a further 7 extra signups. Julia Castle the Leader of Language Partners NZ who are supplying tertiary qualified tutors was also in attendance and asked if Ormiston Primary could provide an extra room a group of this size with many quite high needs would need to be broken down into two groups. These classes will continue throughout the term on a Wednesday and Friday morning from 9.30am to 11.30am. The interest in these sessions continue to grow. There is another tutor being sought out for the second group as we speak. The student social workers were also in attendance as one speaks mandarin and cantonese. The social workers have carried out most of the signups on site. The tutor, June Tupua is accessing the use of the wifi and projector too and has complimented the facility as being “world class”. If you know any adults that may need some english tutoring, ask them to consider signing up for these classes.

This year at Ormiston Primary School we kicked off the week with a special Hui.

LH5 prepared and practiced special performances the whole week. We had:

1. comedy drama

2. a short drama giving out a message

3. NZSL words teaching

4. a dance and song fully in NZSL.

Angelena and Taylor were our wonderful MC’s. Blaine and Jona shared an interesting presentation. Joe, Lui, Jona and Blaine made us all laugh with their funny dramas. Rawinia, Anthea, Ruilin and Jean-Baptiste shared some animal and time signs with the school. And to wrap it up, all of LH5 signed the song “can’t stop the feeling” and it looked #Oresome!!!

The LH5 staff prepared some fun activities for OrmP School. The learners helped and supported the learning coaches. The winners from each habitat received blue tokens. It was great to see all the learning coaches from LH1,LH2,LH3, LH4 and LH6 involved in the activities.

Michael Wi, our Maori tutor did Maori storytelling in NZSL.  Many learners came to LH5 to enjoy watching the interesting story.

We had lots of fun in NZSL week. We all got a chance to show our amazing talents!! We even had NZSL picture and colouring competition. The winners got a special certificate and prize in Hui time.

Calling all parents and caregivers of Oresome Ormiston Primary School!We are offering a Digital Technologies session for all of our parent community on Wednesday March 8th at 2pm, 3pm and 6pm in Te Manawa, so choose the time that works for you.

Come and learn how to access your child’s learning pathways and blogs. It is essential for you to know how to do this in order to access your child’s narrative assessments, progress reports and learning progressions. We can show you how to comment on blogs and take you through the list of apps that we use.  Devices will be provided. This is an exciting opportunity for you to come and learn different ways to keep our children safe online and how to manage the digital world inside your home.

We also intend to offer English language learning classes for people of all ages and from all backgrounds and for a range of purposes in Term 2. If you or your family need extra english tutoring to increase employment opportunities or to advance yourself in your place of employment or if Nana and Grandad want to communicate in English with your children, come along to the workshop and hear more about how this can become a reality.

We all sang the Te Aroha and E Toru Nga Mea waiata as part of the process while Luke Sumich, the Leader of Learning at OJC was welcomed to our side with his family.  It is super exciting to have the school open next door especially since our Year 5-6 learners are living in the Marama hub (because we are soo full).
